College Softball in Action

Jackie Traina from Alabama pitching her sophmore year, 2012, the year they won the National Championship. Pitchers are a key role in college softball, they are in control of the game. Pitchers make the hitters do what they want them to do.

These are the top college softball homerun hitters of 2013. College softball hitters face the best of the best pitching. As I said the pitchers make hitters do what the pitchers want them to do. But some of these hitters are too powerful to control.

Jennie Finch

Who is Jennie Finch?

Jennie Finch is hands down the most influential person of softball. She changed the classic "you throw like a girl" insult to a compliment. There is nothing that Jennie couldn't do on the field. She was an excellent power hitter, a smart and fast base runner, and an overpowering pitcher. Beyond Jennie's ability to play, her work ethic and competitive drive was a cherry on top. Jennie has five pitches along with her fastball; a riser, a curveball, a screwball, a dropball, and a changeup. She has complete control over all of them and she regularly hits 70mph on a radar gun. If I were to list all of Jennie's accomplishments, I would be going on forever.

Background Info

Jennie grew up in La Mirada, California. Jennie went to the University of Arizona and played on the USA softball team.

College Softball compared to MLB Baseball

The Speed of Softball by ESPN Sport Science

Many people assume softball is easy, but this video used science to prove just how hard softball is. Many will be surprised after watching, softball is a hard and fast sport. Did you know that the reaction time of a 70mph college softball pitcher, like Paige McDuffee, is faster than receiving a serve from Serena Williams and faster than an 100 mph MLB pitch?

Welcome to My Blog

I’m Abbie M, a 14 year old fastpitch softball player. I have been playing softball for as long as my memory goes back. I am a 2 time little league Maine state champion, at the ages of 10 and 12. I pitch, play first base and third base. At the age of 12 during the Eastern Little League Regionals I had the most strike-outs (47). This blog will be about college softball. Softball is my life, and there’s nothing better than some college softball.
